ISAIAH 47:12
“Now use your magical charms, use the spell you have worked at all these years
Maybe they will do you some good, maybe they can make some one afraid of you”
The Israelite were chromic idolaters, even as God was manifesting Himself in their lives, they were still flirting with other gods, so when God pronounced curse upon them, He challenged them to use those things they got from other gods to save them, since He was not enough for them.
We know the end of the story right? They used the charms, spells incantation and worship, but were not saved, they were still carried into captivity.
By using magic, witchcraft, sorcery, divination and the study of the stars (Astrology), people of God attempts to discover more about the future for themselves such practices or procedures deny both:-
Function of the prophets, who are the right people that truly predict the future. Though we also have some fake prophets that are parading themselves around.
They also deny the providence and care of God, implying that God can not give them a good future, they will make it themselves.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE TERM USED?
DEUTERONOMY 18:10-11 SAYS:-
“For example sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering, and do not let your people practice, fortune telling or use sorcery, or interpret omen or engaged in witchcraft. Or cast spell or function as medium or psychics or call for the spirit of the dead”.
Some of the terms God forbid his people not to take part in are as follows:-
Sorcery, fortune telling.
Interpreting omen, witchcraft
Casting spells, medium and psychics
Consulting the dead
Magic is also forbidden by God in Ezekiel 13:18-20
The Lord way saying, sorrow awaits those that uses these terms to ensnare the soul of His people, whether they are old or young people.
Don’t think you can trap ither without bringing distraction to yourself. The Lord says I am against all your magic charms.
WHAT ARE THE PURPOSE OF MAGIC AN SORCERY?
To determine future:- Genesis 44:15 says:-
“What have you done? Joseph demanded. Don’t you know that I can predict the future?
Daniel 2:12 says:-
“He call in his magician, enchanters, sorcery and astrology and he demanded that they tell him what he had dreamed, as they stood before him”.
These verse above are talking about the prediction of the future by the people in the bile e.g Joseph, he was blessed with the gift of interpretation, and the magician of xerxes the king of Persia.
To control the future:- Genesis 30:14
“One day during the wheat harvest, Reuben found some mandrakes growing on the field and brought them to his mother Leah. Rachael begged Leah “please give me some of your son’s mandrakes”
Numbers 23:23
“No curse can touch Jacob, no magic has power against Israel for now it will said of Jacob, what wonders God has done for Israel.
WHAT ARE THE WARNING AGAINST MAGIC AND SORCERY?
Warning were given in the law in Exodus 22:18:-
“You must not allow a sorcerer or sorceress to hire” so death was the warning given to those that were practicing the art of sorcery.
Leviticus 20:6 says
“I will also turn against those who commit spiritual prostitution by putting their trust in mediums or in those who consult the spirit of the death. I will cut them off from the community”.
God was saying He will:-
Turn against the people using it
He will cut them off from the community
I pray that God will not found any of such filthiness among us that will make Him thing of cutting us off or turning against us.
Warning given in the prophets Isaiah 2:6
“For the Lord has rejected His people, the decedent of Jacob. Because they have filled their land with practices from the east and with sorcerers as the philistines do, they mad alliance with pagans”.
God is frowning at those that filled their land with pagan practices and made alliance with pagan nations.
Warning in the early church Galatians 5:20-21 says
“Idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, cut burst of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties and others sins like these, Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not merit the kingdom of God”.
Revelation 21:8 says
“ But cowards unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshippers and all liars, their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur, this is the second death”.
In the new testament, the bible is clear about those taking part in magic, sorcery and witchcraft, which is they will not inherit the kingdom of God but be thrown in the lake of fire burring with sulfur. I pray that we will not found wanting that area in Jesus name (Amen).
PROPHET PREDICTING THE FUTURE WAS USED TO DETERMINE TRUE PROPHETS FROM FALSE
1Samule 10:2-9, Deuteronomy 13:1-3
These verse in 1Samuel talks of the prophecy of prophet Samuel to Saul, prophet Samuel told Saul all that will happen, if he moved from where they were to a place beside Rachael’s tomb at Zelzah on the border of Benjamin.
The prophet told Saul everything that will happen and it happened exactly like that.
In Deuteronomy 13:1-3 God was asking the prophet of Israel whether they will not believe somebody that dream dreams or see the future, talked about it and come to pass. These are signs that the is a true prophet.
Today we have Prophets, Pastors, Evangelist, Apostle and Rabbis that go to the kingdom of darkness to collect power to do all sort of miracles, signs and wonders but they are not true prophets. I pray that God’s spirit will give us the discerning spirit to differentiate such pastors in Jesus name (Amen).
Jeremiah 27:9-10 says:-
“Do not listen to your false prophets, fortune tellers, interpreters of dreams, mediums and sorcerers who say, the king of Babylon will not conquer you”
They are all liars and their lie will lead to your being driven out and set far away to die.
The encouragement here is that we should not believe their lies they cannot really predict the future, only God who is all knowing can predict the future.
CONCLUSION
These warnings in the bible apply to the modern day interest in :-
Occult
Witchcraft
Horoscopes
Satanist
New ageism
The bible heavily and openly affirms that there’s no power, no authority that can compete with God. The bible is also calling us Christians to solely rely on Him for all things.
I pray for God to help us with our decision and gives us the strength to continually trust Him for everything.
