WHAT IS THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT?

SERMON ON THE MOUNT

Sermon on the mount, the preaching g of Jesus.

Matthew 5:1-12
Matthew  5: 1-2 (first reading)

It was a sermon given by Jesus Christ, the prince of preachers, the wonderful  prophet of his church.
The sermon was probably for several days ,why?
Because its the longest sermon recorded in the bible (Mathew 5-7)

It was given on the hillside near capernuam (northern shore of Galilee)
.He made the hill side his pulpit

      .preaching as if to millions.

.many men of God complain of
conditions in the church ,but Jesus                   preached everywhere .eh hillside,  crowded  building, etc.
He preached more than prophets in the old testament and john the baptist in the new .

Matthew 5:1-2 ::-our first reading ,it says Jesus pulled the disciples aside to warn them about the temptation they are about to face as his disciples and associates.

Why was that warning important?
Because the multitudes were following them, they felt important ,and were associating themselves with Jesus .
So he had to warn them about the ::-
.thirst ,hunger , mourning ,and persecution Coming to them .how they are suppose to be humble.
So he open his mouth and taught them saying.

 THE BEATITUDES

(matthew 5:3-12)

Beatitude comes from a Latin word Beat it u do ,which means blessed are - happy are, divine joy for those who have .
Each beatitude tells us how blessed we are, when we have certain characteristics.,telling us the blessed attitude of a Christian(we are blessed when those characteristics are found in us.)

Matthew 5:3::-  "the poor in spirit" mean our spiritual condition of poverty. we are poor in spiritual things.
When we recognize our needs for God
When we know we are spiritually bankruptcy and broke.
Until we have Jesus ,we have nothing then.
The kingdom of heaven is ours.its the spiritual realm over which God reigns.me sis talked about it when on earth.

Matthew 5;4 ::- "those who mourn "means those who express deep sorrow for sin and repent from it.
When we have forgiveness and salvation the result is comfort.
But Christians are the ones taking part in sexual immorality ,drunkenness, theft , ritual killing etc.

Matthew 5:5 ::- " the meek"are those who submits to Gods authority, and make him lord.
Rev 21:7 says God children will inherit all things, both the earth.
The meek are also the imitators of Jesus, living like Jesus.
Many people are living according to the dictates of their traditions and culture.

Mathew 5:6 ::- "Hunger and thirst" speaks of deep need and passion. When we have deep need and passion for righteousness.
God will fill us in Jesus name.Amen

Mathew 5:7 ::- we will reap what we sow(Gal 6:8)
Those who demonstrate mercy will reap mercy.(Hallelujah)
We show mercy through forgiveness, kindness ,and compassion to others.

Matthew 5:8 ::- "pure in heart" they are those who are cleansed from within. An inward holiness only God can see.
Hebrew 12 :14 says without holiness ,no one can see God.
Its not talking about hypocritic holiness, but a genuine one.praise the lord.

Matthew 5 :9 ,the bible says we have peace with God through Christ.
Reconciliation through Christ restores our fellowship with God.
2 Corinthians 5:19-20 God entrust us with the same message of reconciliation to take to others.
Evangelism - we will be call the sons and daughters of God.

Matthew 5 :10 ::- Jesus faced persecution (he was flogged ,slapped in the face, tortured) because of us.
So we will face the same, because of our faith.those who endure by faith instead of hiding their faith to avoid persecution will be blessed. Amen
They are the genuine disciples of Jesus Christ and the kingdom of heaven is theirs.

                   CONCLUSION

Mathew 5 :11-12 ::- Jesus said rejoice when we are persecuted. persecution can be good because ::-
1,  it takes our eyes off earthly reward, having prestige ,respect, we should be appreciated when we accomplished something.
2,  it takes away believe that are superficial.it makes us to be more deep rooted in the faith.
3,it strengthens our believe ,when we overcome or endure it.
4. Our attitudes during persecution serves as an example for others to follow..
