Text act 16 11- 40
The biblical meaning of Lydia is "A standing pool"
Bible says very little about Lydia. In Scripture, she is only mentioned twice by name: in Acts 16 (Acts 16:11–15), we read about her conversion and her subsequent baptism. From the tale of Lydia we can gather a couple of helpful insights concerning transformation, explicitly about the change of Jewish devotees.
In the Bible, Lydia was from Thyatira but lived in Philippi when she met Paul on his second missionary trip. She sold purple cloth, which Thyatira was known for because it was the center of the indigo trade.
It appears that Lydia moved to Philippi to work in that city. Inscriptions pertaining to the city's dyers' guild have been discovered among the Thyatira ruins by archaeologists. The Bible does not provide any evidence to support the idea that Lydia was a member of this guild.
Key verse ::- Act 16 :14
" One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple clothes ,she was a worshipper of God . The Lord open her heart to to respond to Paul's message"
Lydia was a dealer in purple clothes , so she was probably wealthy. Purple clothes valuable and expensive, it was worn often as a sign of Nobility or Royalty.
Luke highlights the stories of three individuals
Who became believers through Paul's ministry in Phillip I. They are ::-
1, Lydia , the influential business woman Act 16:14
2, The demon possessed Slave girl Act 16: 14- 16
3, The jailer who gave his life to Christ Act 16 :27 - 30
The gospel was affecting people in all the strata of the society e.g the rich, the poor , slaves and even military men were responding to the gospel.
Hallelujah. Amen
LYDIA'S VITAL STATISTICS
Her name is also derived from a Greek word Lydia which means "Beautiful one " or " Noble One" .
Act 16, Described her as a certain woman, a seller of purple material of the city of Thyatira ::-
Who worship God
Who Help us
Whose heart was open to the word that is(preaching).
But the life of Lydia will not be complete without talking about the second missionary journey of apostle Paul,Silas, Timothy and Luke(the writer). On his missionary journey they wanted goin to Asia ,but the Holy spirit said No,they turn Northward towards Bithynia again the spirit says No,so the turn west towards Traos.
In Traos at night,He had a vision of a man of Macedonia telling him come over to Macedonia and help us. So they journey to Mecedonia where they met Lydia. The Holy spirit always guides us to the right places and guides us away from wrong places. when we seek God ,we are to pay attention to what he is saying to us.

The life of Lydia demonstrates that one can serve God through a "worldly" occupation. She became wealthy as a result.
