WHAT IS AN ANOINTING,WHAT FUNCTION DOES IT PLAY?

 WHAT IS AN ANOINTING, DO MINISTERS OF GOD REALLY NEEDS IT?

What is Anointing, do pastors really needs it?

                     

   1KINGS 19 : 16 

The ritual of applying aromatic oil to a person's entire body is known anointing.

       1 king 19:16 says "then anoint Jehu son of Nimshi to be king of Israel and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from the town of Abel meholah to replace you as my prophet."

     The lord was speaking to Elijah ,

     To anoint jehu as the king

     And to replace Elisha as his                           replacement.

Anointing was what was needed to start an office or an official duty for God.

Anointing serves at least four purposes in the bible, and they are as written down:- 

1,   To make oneself beautiful

2,   To promote healing

3,   To prepare for death or burial 

4 ,  To dedicate an object or a person                for service to God.

Prophets ,priests and kings were allanointed, one of the tittles of the kings were " the anointed one"

WHAT ARE THE EXAMPLES OF PEOPLE ANOINTED IN THE BIBLE?

1 Samuel 10:1 ,1 Samuel 16 : 13

" then Samuel took a flask of olive oil and poured it over Saul's head , He kissed Saul and said " I am doing this because of the lord has appointed you to be the ruler over Israel, his special possession"

" So David stood there among his brothers , Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil, And the spirit of God came powerfully upon David from that day on.then Samuel returned to Raman"

King David ,and king saul were all anointed by prophet Samuel.

The priest Zadok anoints Solomon

Elisha's disciple anoints Jehu

Jesus Christ was anointed by by God (holy spirit) and then Mary of bath any anointed him for his death and burial.

The most important anointing in the bible was the anointing of Jesus, the messiah , the Christ , the anointed one.

His anointing was prophesied in the old testament .Psalms 45 :7

" You love justice and hate evil, therefore God, your God , has anointed you.

Pouring out the oil of joy on you .more than anyone else."

In the new testament it was marked by the Dec end of the holy spirit like a dove on him at the baptism.

During his life ,he functions as a ::-

        Prophet

        Priest

      And a king

Act 17 :3 " He explained the prophecies and proves that the messiah must suffer and rise from the death.he said " this Jesus I am telling about is a messiah"

Christians are also anointed with the holy spirit, so it means we must live in the power of the spirit prophets and also proclaim his word.( Matthew 24 : 14) 

As priest who constantly offer ourselves as a living sacrifice (Romans 12 :1)

As kings  who who are sensitive to rule creations of God in his stead successful.

HOW IS JESUS THE ANOINTED ONE?

     Psalms 2  : 2

" the kings of the earth prepare for battle, the rulers plots together against the lord and against his anointed one"

This passage was initially written about one of the kings of Israel, several elements of this psalms point forward  to Jesus Christ, the messiah ,the anointed one.

The apostles saw the psalms verse 1-2 as prophetic of Romans and the Jewish persecution of Jesus Christ( Act 4: 25 - 28)

Paul and the writer of of the book of Hebrew ,heard God addressed his crucified and resurrected son of God ,Jesus Christ in this psalms.

              Act 13 : 33

              Hebrew 1:5 , 

              Hebrew 5:5

God himself echoed a phrase from this psalms to speak to Jesus at his baptism ::- Matthew 3:17 ,and at transfiguration Matthew 17:5 .

  JESUS AS THE ANOINTED ONE

               Isaiah 61 :1

When Jesus preached in the synagogue of his home town of Nazareth, he reads this passage from isaiah  and went on to say " this scripture you have just heard  has been fulfilled this day.
