 WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF VINEYARD IN THE BIBLE?

Significance of the vineyard in the bible

 Isaiah 5 :1 

" Now I will sing, for the one I love,a song about his vineyard: my beloved had a vineyard on a rich fertile Hill"

By the time of Noah,cultivated vineyards were popular in the land of Canaan. Often they had protecting walls, a tower for watchmen and a winepress. To sit in ones vineyard and to eat in from ones vineyard signified prosperity and security.

Cultivated vineyard is seen in Genesis 9:20 during the time of Noah. The bible says ::-

" After the flood ,Noah began to cultivate the ground and he planted a vineyard"

WHAT WERE THE SIGNIFICANCE OF VINEYARD IN THE BIBLE?

1)  NOAH'S VINEYARD  ::- Genesis 9:20

"After the flood, Noah began to cultivate the ground ,and he planted a vineyard"

2). THOSE IN CANAAN::- Numbers 13:23-24 ,Deuteronomy 8:8

"When they came to the valley of Eshcol,they cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes so large that it took two men to carry it on a pole in between them,they also brought back samples of pomegranates and figs.. That place was called Eshcol which means "cluster".

Deuteronomy 8:8 says 

"It is a land of wheat and barley ,of grapevine ,fig tree and pomegranates ,of olive oil and honey.

3). Naboth's Vineyard ::- 1 kings 21 :1-16

4). Vineyard in the parable of Jesus ::- Matthew 20:1-15 ,Mathew 21:28-31

WHAT WERE THE DESIGNS AND CARE OF THE VINEYARD?

A,  DESIGNS

1,  They had protective walls ::- Numbers 22:24

" A then the Angel of the lord stood at a place where the road is narrow between two vineyard walls"

2,   It had tower for watchmen::- Isaiah 5:2a

"He plowed the land and cleared its stone and planted it with best vine.in the middle he built a watch tower"

3,   It had a winepress ::-Isaiah 5 :2b

"In the middle he built a watchtower and carved a winepress in the near by rock"

B) THE CARE

1,   Cleared the field ::- Isaiah 5:2a

"He plowed the land and cleared the field"

2,   Plating ::- psalms 107:37

" they sowed their field and planted their vineyard, and harvested their bumper crops"

3,   Cultivating ::- isaiah 7:25

4,   pruning ::- Leviticus 25:3

5,   Harvesting ::- Leviticus 19:10

6,    Treading the wine press::- isaiah 16:10

WHAT WERE THE SYMBOLS VINEYARDS WERE USED FOR?

A).  As a symbol of pros

perity and security

1,   to eat ones vineyard meant security ::- Micah 4:4

"Everyone will live in peace and prosperity, enjoying their own grapevine and fig tree,there will be nothing to fear,The lord of heavens armies ,has made this promise"

2,   to eat from ones own vineyard meant prosperity ::- psalmsb107:37-38

" they sow their fields and planted their vineyard and harvested their bumper crop. How he blessed them,they raise their large families there and their herds and livestock.increased."

B)  As a spiritual symbol

1 , As a symbol of the Israel nation ::- isaiah 5 :7a

"The nation of Israel is the vineyard of the lord of heavens armies,the people of Judah are his pleasant garden"

2,   As a symbol of the followers of Jesus Christ ::- john 15:1-6

In the book of john,Jesus is the true vine ,God is the gardener and we are the branches ,if we continue to abide in him,he will also abide in us and makes us grow more in him(Amen)

3,   As a symbol of the kingdom of heaven ::- Matthew 20:1-15

Jesus said in his parable( the parable of the vineyard workers),he said , the kingdom of heaven is like a land owner ,who went out early one morning to hire workers for his vineyard"

             .              CONCLUSION

Vines planted and tended in the in the vineyard are used as a symbol of Gods people both in the old testament and in the new testament.

The vineyard in a scene in the in the dramatic parable of Grace and judgment told by Jesus.

Gods care for the vine in the vineyard by pruning them and cultivating around them. If his people do not bear fruits ,he punishes them by cutting them off individual branches (john 5:2) and by destroying his vineyard (isaiah 5:1-7)

Yet we do not have to fear such destruction if we bear fruits (fruits of the spirit Gal 5 :22)

Jesus identified himself as  the true vine to which human must be attached in order to bring forth fruits of righteousness..

WHAT IS BEARING FRUITS FOR GOD?

                         Psalms 1:1-3

"Oh the joy of those who do not follow the device of the wicked,orvstandvaroundbsinners,or join in mockers, But they delight in law of the lord ,meditating on it day and night.

They are like trees (vineyard) planted along the riverbank,bearing fruits each season,their leaves never wither and they prosper  in all they do

 (Amen)
