| Care of the elderly please God |
Deuteronomy 5 :16
" Hon our your father and mother, as the Lord your God commanded you. Then you will livea long and full life in the land the Lord Your God is giving you."
Leviticus 19:32
The foundation of the society is the family and the family is effectively controlled by only by the Authority and direction of the heads of the family , so if the heads s of the families are not seen and respected, then there will be chaos and breakdown of law ,rules ,regulation and order in the society.
The command then to honour parents may be justly regarded as putting the foundation of all the good working of the society and a relationship with God.
Where parent are not respected or honored , a problem lies at the basis and the stability of of the entire social fabric is put at risk.
1 Timothy 5 : 17 says :-
" The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double hon our, especially those whose work is preaching and teahing."
The topic means ,:- Concern for the elderly.
Love shown to the elderly.
Solving the problems of the elderly makes God happy.
The text says - hon our your father and mother as the lord has commanded., Respect them though you are the one taking care of them.
Be patient with them , they are in another phase of life, that is they are very very slow now, they complain too much and wants things that are weird.
Weird things like balms ,local garden eggs , kola,bitter kola and even bitter leafs soup.
Understand them , especially for women , they are in menu pause ,there is a drift from the way their system work now.,because the hormones that was working to help main certain part KO of them is not working very well again.
Then you will live long ( that is God lol bless you with years,so that you will be taken care of too very well), one good turn deserves another.
The way we take care of our parents, its the same way our children will take care of us.
The children are seeing us, you are teaching them consciously and unconsciously.
They will follow our examples, if we give good examples ,you will get good treatment and if you give bad examples ,you will get bad treatment, its not a curse , we trained them to be like .
Full Of Life In Gods Place Of Blessing
The bible says :-
You will bask in Grace , In the blessing of God upon us
YOU KNOW WHY? Because :-
They will bless you
They will give us good lessons of life they have learnt.
They will show us mistakes not to do, that they had made in their lives and don't want us to make the same.
LEVITICUS 19 :32
" Stand up in the presence of an elderly "
(The statement can be literal )
Stand up as a sign of respect or
Stand up for them to sit down and rest
their weak backs and muscles.
This days children don't have respect for the elderly at all, Old people have become :-
The object of ridicule ( openly laughing at their their dressing , Shuri med face , bald heads and fading memory etc)
They have tagged old people as wit h and wizard (old with and old wizard).
They feel old people have some diseases, is old age a disease? The answer to that question is NO. Its a normal process , everybody will be old one day.
Standing up could also mean :-
Standing up in good character
Be good when we are before them, in actions ,in words and in emotional .
Show respect to the elderly because you fear God., if you will not respect them because of the above points.
Respect them because you fear the almighty God.
CONCLUSION
To be old is a blessing not a curse, as Christians let us please not add more troubles that the elderly people are having already.
Let's make up our minds to teach our children how to treat the elderly people just as God had commanded us to do.
PRAYER
Father help us as your children to learn how to take properly take care of the elderly people in our midst, because we know you are certainly happy with it.
