What is born again?

“Jesus replied I will tell you the truth, unless you are born again” you cannot know the kingdom of God”.

What did Nicodemus know about the kingdom?

From the bible he knew it would be ruled by god; it would be restored on earth and it would incorporate God’s people. Jesus revealed to his Pharisee devotee & that the kingdom of God would come to the whole world not just to the Jews and Nicodemus would be part if he is born again.

Jesus later taught that the kingdom would come has already come in the heart of believers.

INTRODUCTION 

Being born again is necessary because we are dead in sin. It’s a work that God, particularly he Holy Spirit accomplishes. Spiritual rebirth occurs when we believe in Jesus and it result in salvation through Christ and new life through the spirit. 

The assurance of eternal life victory over sinful lifestyle is so that we do what is right as new creation of God and safety from the attacks of Satan and his followers. Born again is a spiritual rebirth by the power of Jesus Christ.

WHY IS SPIRITUAL REBIRTH NECESSARY?

It is necessary because we are death in sin- Colossian 2:13

“You were dead because of your sins and because of your sinful nature was not cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for He forgave all sins”.

Ephesians 2:1

“Once you were dead because if your disobedience and your many sins”

Because we need the spirit in our lives- John 3:3-6

“Jesus replied, I tell you the truth unless you are born again you cannot see the kingdom of God. What do you mean? 

Exclaimed Nicodemus, how can an old man go back into his mother womb to be born again? Jesus replied, I assure you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and the spirit. 

Human can only reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.

HOW DOES SPIRITUAL BIRTH TAKE PLACE?

By a decision of God- John 1:13

“They are reborn not with physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God”.

By a decision of Jesus, the son of God-  

John 5:21

“For just as the father gives life to those He raises from the dead, so the son gives life to any one He wants” Praise the Lord (Amen).

By an act of God through Christ- Colossians 2:13

“You were not alive, because of the state of your sin but were not yet cut away, and then God made you alive with Christ He forgave all your sins”.

Before we believed in Christ our nature was evil. We disobeyed, rebelled and ignored God at our best; we did not love Him with all our heart, soul and mind. The Christian however have a new nature because God has crucified the old rebellious nature on the cross of Calvary. We were slaves to our sinful nature, but now we are free to live for Christ (Galatian 2:20).

By the Holy Spirit - John 3:6

“Humans can only reproduced human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life”

Titus 3:5 says: - “He saved us not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy; He washed away our sins giving us as a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit”.

Through the word of God – James 1:18, 1Peter 1:23

Through believing in Jesus Christ 1John 1:23

“Anyone who denies the son doesn’t have the father, either, but anyone who acknowledges the son has the father also”.

WHAT DOES SPIRITUAL REBIRTH RESULT IN?

It results salvation and new life in individual and group- Titus 3:5 says :-

“Paul summarized what Christ does for us when saves us. We move from a life full of to one where we are led by God’s Holy Spirit, all our sins are washed away which in turn gives us salvation.

It result to entrance into God’s kingdom- John 3:13 

“It states that unless a man is born again he cannot see or enter the kingdom of our most high God. You must have this spiritual rebirth to gain access to heaven. I pray that we will make this solemn decision in the mighty name of Jesus.

It results in being a new creation, because old things have passed away- 2Corinthians 5:17 

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come, the old has gone, the new is here. Hallelujah, Amen.

Ephesians 4:24 “And to put on a new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and Holiness”.

Paul tells Ephesians to have behind, their old self of sin since they were followers of Christ. 

Living the Christian life is a process, although we have a new nature but we don’t automatically change overnight. If we keep that we harken unto his words in Jesus name.

It result to our victory over sin and sinful nature-

 1John 3:9

“Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a particular of sinning because God life is in them so they can’t keep sinning, because they are children of God”.

1John 2:29 “since we know that Christ is righteousness, we also know that those who do what is right are God’s children”.

It result to our ability to do right- 1Peter 1:23

It gives us the ability to love another as children of God - 1John 4:7

It result to safety for the evil one, Stan or the Devil - 1John 5:18

CONCLUSION 

To be born again shows that someone has seen that he/she is a sinner and need the forgiveness of God His creator and maker.

He is then cleansed in the blood of Jesus Christ and He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior .
