IDENTITY IN CHRIST

What is my identity in  Christ

TEXT: Ephesians 1:3 -14

           Genesis 1:27 ,Gen 2:7

Identity By Holman Bible Dictionary Means ::-

An Identity is an individuals sense of self defined by .Physical

                   .Psychological

                   .Interpersonal characteristics                              that is shared by group.

Your identity is what your are identified with e.g Ethnicity ,Race ,Religion etc.

Spiritual identity is to know God and understand who you are within God.

           .knowing God means accepting and                  reading about hin in his words .

           .Understanding who you are means 

             having the awareness of your                             worth in Christ .

GENESIS 1:27 :- 

God formed me, and breathe in me the breath of life, God made me a living being.

  .Our lives and worth therefore comes from God is God's spirit

Whether am poor, Rich ,literate and illiterate, fine or ugly, My importance comes from what God put in my spirit (Amen),The bible is exhorting us not to be boastful of what we have in this world or be worried because we have not achieved anything .

Our achievement comes from the God who created the universe.

OUR TRUE IDENTITY (Ephesians 1:3 - 14)

Paul in prison was writing to the ephesian church.

One of the major  theme is "God's purpose", Our identity is in God's. 

1,  WE ARE BLESSED WITH EVERY SPIRITUAL BLESSING (EPH 1:3) 

  .In Christ,we have all the benefits of             knowing God I e fellowship.

  .Chosen for salvation from sin and death     (Deliverance)

   .Adopted as his children

   .the gift of the spirit

   .And forgiveness.

The blessings come from Christ spiritual realm not earthly realm.

2, WE ARE HOLY AND BLAMELESS IN CHRIST (EPH 1 : 4) 

He chose us in him before the creation of the world.

Salvation depends on God totally::-

    We are not save because we deserve it

    But because God is gracious

    And freely gives salvation

He saved us according to his plans,there's no way ,we can take credit for our salvation or Godliness.

Salvation  existed in the timeless mind of God before we were created.Because of Christ ,we are holy and blameless before God, All we can do is to express our thanks for his wonderful love..

3, WE ARE ADOPTED AS GODS CHILDREN IN CHRIST (EPH 1 :5-6) 

He marked us out beforehand, he planned ahead of time.

  Salvation is Gods work not our doing

In his infinite love,God adopted us as his children, through the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross, He bought us into Gods family and made us his heirs with Jesus Christ (ROM 8:17)

In Romans law,Adopted children have the same right as the biological children,even if they were slaves before.

We were slaves and God adopted us ,and Paul was connecting it by saying :--

  We are co-heirs with Christ

  God graciously accepts us though we          don't deserve it.

4.   OUR SINS ARE TAKEN AWAY AND ARE FORGIVEN IN CHRIST (Eph 1:7)

In him we have redemption and the forgiveness of sin through his blood.the blood of Jesus speaks of his death,and its points to two things of truth::-

    Redemption

    Forgiveness

Redemption was the price paid for the freedom of a slave (Lev 25:47 -54).Jesus through his death ,paid the price to release us from the slavery of sin.

Forgiveness is granted on the basis of shedding animals blood(Lev 17:11),Today,we are forgiven because of the blood of Jesus.He died as a perfect and final sacrifice for our sins(Rpm 5:9).

CONCLUSION

Grace is Gods voluntary and loving favor given to he save.

    We cannot earn salvation our works

    It is undeserved

    No intellectual , moral ,religious efforts        can gain it.

Without God Grace,Nobody can be saved,to receive it we must accept we cannot do it on our own,that only he can save us.

1 cod 1:2 says " we are sanctified (made holy) and made acceptable in Jesus Christ.
